Decision made: Liverpool choose their new midfielder

Decision made: Liverpool choose their new midfielder Liverpool have reportedly made their choice. They need a new midfielder and now we know who they want. Liverpool need a new midfielder and they need one badly. We believe that's been the case for a while now - well into last season at the very least. The club, however, appear to disagree. Or at least, they did. Liverpool haven't pushed hard for a midfielder all window and looked set to completely ignore any issues defensively through the middle. They even let Curtis Jones depart the club for Inter without a planned replacement. However, the Newcastle United draw on Sunday changed things. It could not have been any more obvious that they had problems defending the middle of the pitch as the hosts twice scored by taking advantage of it. The Reds do need someone who can sniff out danger, then. Maybe it doesn't need to be a pure defensive, holding midfielder but someone who tries to stop attacks would be nice. They've been linked with a few midfielders this week, despite having such little time to get a deal over the line. Though, they may have finally picked one. Journalist Khadim Diakhaté claims that Manu Kone is the big pick for Liverpool, with them prioritising a move for the AS Roma star over others. The big problem is that Roma don't want to sell and there isn't exactly a lot of time to convince them otherwise. If they hold out for a few days, Kone isn't going anywhere until at least January - and that means the price here will be inflated, potentially massively. It's a strange one, then. There are other midfield option available but Liverpool must believe that Kone is a level above. Someone worth going all-in for despite the difficult transfer.
