Hansi Flick breaks Pep Guardiola’s record with youngest-ever Barcelona XI at Camp Nou Barcelona’s first home match of the 2026/27 La Liga season at Spotify Camp Nou produced a remarkable piece of club history, with Hansi Flick fielding what is claimed to be the youngest starting XI Barcelona have ever named for a home fixture. According to journalist Oriol Jove (h/t Mundo Deportivo ), the Blaugrana’s starting line-up had an average age of just 23.18 years. The milestone was made possible by a line-up heavily influenced by La Masia.  As many as seven of the players selected had come through Barcelona’s youth system, while Pedri and Joan Garcia represented the Spanish contingent.  Notably, Raphinha and Anthony Gordon were the only foreign players in Flick’s chosen XI. Most strikingly, four players born in 2007 started together, namely, Pau Cubarsi, Marc Bernal, Xavi Espart and Lamine Yamal.  Flick started Barcelona’s youngest-ever team at home. Barcelona’s 23.18-year-old line-up breaks record The youngest Barcelona starting XI record for a home match had previously been held by Pep Guardiola’s side from December 2011. That night, in a Champions League group-stage meeting with BATE Borisov, Barcelona named a youthful team with an average of 23.26, containing five players registered with the reserve side – Marc Bartra, Raphinha, Isaac Cuenca, Martin Montoya and Sergi Roberto. Flick’s selection has now surpassed that benchmark, with Barcelona’s 23.18 average now setting a new record for the club at home. (Photo by Alex Caparros/Getty Images) The Blaugrana currently have the joint-lowest average squad age in La Liga at 24.2 years, alongside Levante.  Across Europe’s five major leagues, only four clubs have younger squads: Auxerre, Parma, Toulouse and Strasbourg. Barcelona have just five players aged over 30: Wojciech Szczesny, Joao Cancelo, Dominik Livakovic, Andreas Christensen and Rodri and three of those players are new arrivals. At the other end of the scale, Barcelona currently have 11 players under the age of 20.  Yet several of them are far from inexperienced, as Lamine Yamal, Cubarsi and Bernal may only be 19, but all three have already accumulated significant top-level experience.
