Borussia Dortmund fear Giannis Konstantelias may have suffered ACL tear
Borussia Dortmund fear Giannis Konstantelias may have suffered ACL tear Borussia Dortmund face an anxious wait over the fitness of Giannis Konstantelias after the Greek international suffered a potentially serious knee injury in Saturday’s 2-0 Bundesliga victory over Hamburg. Konstantelias had produced an excellent performance before his premature withdrawal , scoring Dortmund’s second goal and registering his first Bundesliga strike following his summer move from PAOK Thessaloniki. The 23-year-old sustained the injury shortly after halftime when he caught his left knee awkwardly in the turf during a duel with Bakery Jatta. No contact from the Hamburg player was involved. Konstantelias was able to leave the pitch under his own power after treatment, but Dortmund fear a significant setback. “We should be a little cautious today, but we are certainly worried about a serious injury,” BVB sporting director Nils Ole Book told Sky Germany after the match. Asked specifically whether Dortmund feared an ACL tear, Book acknowledged that possibility. “That concern is there.” Book also expressed sympathy for a player who had impressed immediately following his arrival in Dortmund. “I felt incredibly sorry for the boy,” Book said. “He has had a great presence here from Day One. We all like him very much.” Konstantelias will now undergo further examinations to determine the extent of the injury. GGFN | Peter Weis
