Arsenal announce signing Axel Donczew from Cardiff City
Arsenal announce signing Axel Donczew from Cardiff City Arsenal have announced they have completed the signing of Axel Donczew from Cardiff City. The 16-year-old has joined the club as part of the first-year scholarship intake. He has also signed a pre-contract agreement that will lead to a professional deal when he turns 17. Axel made headlines last October when he became Cardiff’s youngest ever senior player. He was only 15 years when he featured as a substitute in the EFL Trophy match against Newport County. The Welsh youth international made his second first-team appearance for the Bluebirds last December against Wimbledon. Axel mainly plays on the left wing but he can also operate as an attacking midfielder. Arsenal have made several top additions to the squad this summer as they aim to defend their Premier League crown. They have signed Christos Tzolis, Bruno Guimaraes and Ezri Konsa from Club Brugge, Newcastle United and Aston Villa respectively. The Gunners still seek a world-class forward and have firmly set their sights on Julian Alvarez. Atletico Madrid have shown a willingness to consider an offer from the English champions. But Alvarez has already told manager Mikel Arteta he doesn’t want to join Arsenal . The Argentine could yet change his transfer stance, but a move to the Emirates Stadium looks unlikely with the summer window closing on September 1. Stats from Transfermarkt
