They showed their tremendous spirit to seal a late 2-1 comeback victory over Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium last Sunday. Enzo Maresca’s side followed that win with an impressive 4-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Friday night. Off the pitch, City are making moves to bolster their squad for the season ahead. Ayyoub Bouaddi has been confirmed as a Manchester City player and there are promises to be more signings to come. All of a sudden there is a different feeling surrounding City than the one that surrounded them after their FA Community Shield defeat to Arsenal. On the pitch, Enzo Maresca’s side have shown plenty to get excited about. Following Manchester City’s 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the FA Community Shield, there was an air of disappointment that surrounded City’s performance. That is justified given the manner of City’s display in Cardiff. However, there were mitigating circumstances behind it. Clearly, Enzo Maresca’s side was short of a gallop and the match basically served as an occasion for City’s players to get minutes in their legs. Since then, City have played two games in the Premier League and have won both. Against Bournemouth, City had to fight from a goal down and call upon their fighting spirit to seal a late come-from-behind victory. Their second half performance was also strong as they held Bournemouth to one chance of note and had Marco Rose’s side dropped deep for the majority of the second half. Against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park the attacking play from Enzo Maresca’s side was sublime. They carved through Pierre Sage’s time and time again and the way that Phil Foden, Nico O’Reilly, Rayan Cherki, Antoine Semenyo, Elliot Anderson and Erling Haaland linked up was superb to watch unfold. This City side has the capacity to tear through opponents and it is entertaining to watch them strut their stuff. There are concerns that Enzo Maresca’s side needs to address. At times they are too easy to play through and you do sense that this will improve in time. But for now, on the pitch, there is a lot to be positive about this Manchester City side that has stood out over the past week. Off the pitch, Manchester City are busy trying to bolster their squad. Manchester City have cleared the decks, so to speak, this summer. So far, Bernardo Silva, Rodri, Nathan Ake, John Stones, James Trafford, Tijjani Reijnders, Omar Marmoush, Savinho and Nico Gonzalez have left the club. A host of young players have also been sent on loan. As players have left City, the angst surrounding what the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders were doing or planning to do grew. However, it is beginning to become clear what City have planned. Ayyoub Bouaddi is now a Manchester City player. City are also on the verge of signing right winger Allan from Palmeiras. The City hierarchy is in the process of bolstering Enzo Maresca’s squad. There is the potential that Liverpool’s versatile forward Cody Gakpo and Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez could also sign for City. If they do, Enzo Maresca will have the squad he desires for the 2026-27 season. That is what the City hierarchy hoped to achieve this summer. If they can do their business by the time the transfer window closes that would be ideal. Final thoughts. The past week has been very good for Manchester City. Two wins over Bournemouth and Crystal Palace have shown plenty of promise for what lies ahead.
