Sunderland Are Showing Interest In Signing This Bundesliga Defender Permanently: Good Option For Le Bris? In a recent post on X , Voetbal International journalist Joost Blaauwhof mentioned that Sunderland are showing interest in signing Red Bull Leipzig defender Lutsharel Geertruida permanently this summer. It has been stated that the Black Cats want to initiate talks with the Dutch player over a permanent move later this year following the player’s participation in the FIFA World Cup. Geertruida’s Solid Loan Spell At The Stadium Of Light Last Season Geertruida enjoyed a decent loan spell at the Wearside club after he produced a string of solid displays on the right side of their backline. The 25-year-old made 30 appearances for the Black Cats las season, but failed to score or create a goal for them across all fronts. The Dutch talent is currently one of the most talented full-backs in his homeland. Hence, it is no wonder that Sunderland are trying to bring him back to the Premier League this off-season. Geertruida’s current contract at his parent club, Red Bull Leipzig, will expire in the summer of 2029, which could make it tough for the Black Cats to land him permanently in this summer transfer period. (Photo by Carl Recine/Getty Images) Will Geertruida Be A Good Option For Sunderland Boss Regis Le Bris? Geertruida loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and is an accurate passer as well. The Dutch sensation is primarily a right-back but can also fill in as a centre-back if told to do so by his manager. However, he has to find a way to add a few goals and assists to his game if he wants to improve as a full-back. Geertruida would bring more quality and depth to Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris’ defence. He has what it takes to challenge for a regular starting spot at the Wearside club in the coming years. At 25, Geertruida has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a decent option for the Black Cats to pursue in this summer transfer window. However, Le Bris should only consider re-signing him permanently if he can do so for a reasonable fee this off-season.
