Newcastle have signed 'young players who they can improve'

Former Newcastle defender John Anderson believes the "recruitment has been good" after a summer of change at St James' Park. The Magpies lost key men in Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, while manager Eddie Howe also departed, and signed a host of younger-profile players. Anderson told BBC Radio Newcastle: "The £100m for Tonali was too good a deal to turn down. I liked Tonali when he was here, I thought he was a good player, but £100m [is] just too much for me. "It was good business to bring in [Nico] Gonzalez in for half of that and you saw the way that he performed at the weekend. "You can see the line the club are taking. It's mainly young players who they can improve. Some of them haven't been cheap - £50m is still a lot of money. "There's going to be rocky situations but it's how you handle that. Up until now, nobody can complain and nobody can say we haven't been good value for it either. We deserved to win the game at Spurs and deserved to beat Liverpool - but we didn't and got a point out of it." Listen to the full chat above or on BBC Sounds here Anderson also had his say on young striker Sean Neave's potential loan move to Championship side Wolves , questioning whether it would be the best choice. "I raised an eyebrow when I saw Wolves. I looked at what they had and will he get much game time there? Is he going to go there and go straight into their starting XI? The way that they have started, you wouldn't think so. "Going to a Championship club who will be looking to get back into the Premier League at the first time of asking, we'll see. "I would say that he had other options if he wanted to go down that route and could go elsewhere. If that's where he wants to go, good luck to him. Will he get an awful lot of game time? We'll wait and see." Hit play below to hear the full discussion or listen here on BBC Sounds
