'A positive end to Newcastle's window'
Newcastle commentator Matthew Raisbeck has praised the Magpies' recruitment team for a positive end to the transfer window despite an initially turbulent summer for the club. "It's nice to not have the drama and the anxiety and disappointment of last year's summer transfer window," he told BBC Radio Newcastle. "It's been a relatively straightforward day for Newcastle and a rather positive end to the window as well which maybe at one point in the summer we wouldn't have seen coming." He added: "This summer's window has turned around and I think with Ross Wilson there and the other staff around him working on transfers there's a clear shift in policy. "There is certainly a plan in place, they've had to move to other targets in a couple of cases but as the club said they've been patient when it came to Nico Gonzalez and to Matias Fernandez-Pardo, and Newcastle United themselves after announcing the Fernandez-Pardo deal described this summer's window as transformative and I think that's probably a fair word to use to assess it with their outgoings and also the young players that have come in. They haven't signed a player older than 24." Listen to a wider assessment of Newcastle's summer business above or why John Anderson is excited about Sean Steur below. You can listen to both on BBC Sounds. Former Newcastle defender John Anderson has picked out Sean Steur as the best signing of the window. "I think that [Amar] Dedic has been great," he said. "But I think the one I'm really looking forward to seeing is Steur." "I think at 18 years of age, coming from where he's come from, through that Ajax academy, he is what you would expect him to be." "People will say, well, what do you mean by that? From an early age he's brought up with the ball, to be able to control the ball, to be able to pass the ball, to be able to see a pass and he most definitely can do that." "He's comfortable on the ball, he wants the ball in all areas of the pitch, he goes looking for it, he plays beyond his years of 18 years of age and he can only get better."
