Calm end to Cherries window - now for Europe
[Getty Images] In contrast to the frenzy of bids, talks, "advanced talks", deal sheets and multiple £100m-plus transfers (plus add-ons, of course), Bournemouth was an oasis of calm on deadline day, with no incomings or outgoings. Cherries fans will breathe a sigh of relief, and accept that the club's hierarchy were true to their word, in that none of their superstars - especially Alex Scott, Eli Junior Kroupi and Rayan - were sold, despite the noise on social media that would have had you believe that all three were as good as signed, sealed and delivered to "big six" clubs. Scott even mimed putting a telephone down while celebrating his goal against Everton on Saturday. Though he remains under contract at Vitality Stadium for another two seasons, the speculation will return in future windows if he continues to show the form which has brought him a whisker away from an England cap. Essentially, head coach Marco Rose will operate with a similar squad, in terms of numbers, to that with which predecessor Andoni Iraola finished last season. Antonio Silva, Juanlu Sanchez, Alvaro Rodriguez and Michele di Gregorio are, broadly, like-for-like swaps for Marcos Senesi, Alex Jimenez, Enes Unal and Will Dennis. With supporters rushing to book travel and accommodation for Bournemouth's first foray into Europe, the club must also now look to the continent and submit a squad list to Uefa by midnight on Wednesday. There are myriad regulations governing what constitutes "club-trained" or "association-trained" players, though it may be that one or two players on the fringes of the first-team squad, such as Max Aarons or Julian Araujo, miss out on a Europa League squad place in order to fit Uefa's regulations. Meanwhile, foremost in Rose's mind will surely be addressing the late defensive lapses which have cost his side points in both Premier League games so far.
