Ipswich Town sign Charlton Athletic forward McAteer on loan Ipswich Town have completed the signing of Charlton Athletic forward Mary McAteer on a season-long loan deal. The Tractor Girls announced the news via a post on their official club website late last night. The 22-year-old attacker joins Ipswich Town in a bid to continue her impressive record in Barclays WSL2. McAteer has spent the last four years playing at that level of football, impressing in spells with Coventry United, Sunderland and Charlton Athletic. The player was promoted to the Barclays Women’s Super League with parent club Charlton Athletic via a play-off last season and she made 21 appearances for The Addicks in their promotion-winning campaign. On the international stage, McAteer has been capped by Wales on nine occasions while she has scored one goal for her country. After joining Ipswich Town on loan, McAteer said “I am so excited to be here and can’t wait to get to work. It has all happened quite quickly but as soon as the opportunity came about, I just knew I wanted to get the deal done. “I think I can bring some attacking flair to the team as well as hard work and grit. I always make sure that nothing’s left out on the pitch when I play. “I’ve had a good pre-season and really can’t wait for the campaign to start at home this Sunday.” McAteer joined Ipswich Town ahead of last night’s 11pm transfer deadline.
