Inside story of how Barcelona beat Europe’s biggest clubs to sign Jesse Bisiwu from Club Brugge Barcelona’s signing of Jesse Bisiwu was the result of almost a year of scouting, meetings and negotiations rather than a late move for an emerging talent. According to SPORT , Barça identified the Club Brugge youngster well before making their final move and stayed committed to the operation despite the Belgian club’s high valuation and interest from other major European sides. Bisiwu, who is currently injured ,  stood out to Barcelona’s scouting department, with Joao Amaral and Deco seeing a technically gifted and unpredictable player with exceptional ability in one-on-one situations. The club’s conviction grew through months of monitoring, eventually leading Barcelona to make a personal approach to the player. Deco made the difference in Brussels Barcelona did not wait until negotiations with Club Brugge were underway to determine whether Bisiwu actually wanted the move. Rather, Amaral and Deco spent months speaking with his representatives, assessing his interest and whether a transfer was realistically possible.  That groundwork led to a decisive meeting on January 27, when the pair travelled to Brussels to meet Bisiwu and his closest entourage. Barcelona left Brussels with his commitment, but the more difficult negotiation was still ahead. Club Brugge refused to sell cheaply The next stage took place in Lausanne on April 20 during the Youth League Final Four.  Amaral met Devy Rigaux, then Brugge’s sporting director, to formally communicate Barcelona’s interest. The relationship between the clubs was not the obstacle, but Brugge’s development model was. The Belgian side wanted to develop Bisiwu, give him a pathway towards first-team football and expose him to domestic and European competition before considering a major sale.  Their argument was straightforward: a young player’s value can increase dramatically once he has experience in the Champions League or Europa League, which is why Barcelona’s initial offer was rejected. Deco and Amaral remained convinced that Bisiwu was worth pursuing. Bisiwu chose Barcelona despite the wait The negotiations became more complicated when Rigaux left Brugge for Feyenoord.  Now, Barcelona had to establish a relationship with a new structure, with Maarten Dedobbeleer among the key figures involved. That required certain aspects of the agreement to be revisited, but Barcelona eventually returned with another proposal and reached a deal. Bisiwu’s preference was crucial throughout the process, as he prioritised Barcelona despite interest from other clubs and remained committed even as negotiations dragged on. Now, Bisiwu wanted the move, but he had to watch the weeks pass and ultimately became frustrated that Barcelona and Brugge had not yet reached an agreement. Eventually, though, his patience was rewarded, as he was signed for a deal worth €8.5 million on a five-year contract .
