Analysis: Late goal costs Cherries... again

[Getty Images] New Bournemouth boss Marco Rose had just finished giving high fives to his staff on the bench when Newcastle pulled a goal back - scoring 101 seconds after Malick Thiaw's own goal. He could not really be blamed for the gesture given the impressive performance he had coaxed out of his players in the first half. Marco Rose's side had outfoxed and outplayed Newcastle for the majority of the opening period with an intelligent display. They managed a staggering 13 shots in the first half - five on target - and should really have been out of sight after a purple patch in which they created clear-cut opportunities. Evanilson fired over from a good position after Sven Botman gave the ball away, while a slick counterattack culminated in a tame finish by Marcus Tavernier. The second-half slugfest curtailed the spectacle, and their intent, and up in the Gods where the away fans are housed at St James' Park there was a doubtless a nagging feeling as the clock ticked into the final 10 minutes. Having conceded three goals after the 84th minute in their opening two games it felt inevitable that an equaliser would come as Newcastle piled on the pressure and Jacob Ramsey duly delivered it. Bournemouth have now lost seven points from winning positions in the Premier League this season, more than any other team. Rose quickly needs to get to the bottom of why his side are letting them in so late.
