Badenoch complete treble with Women's Camanachd Cup

[BBC] Badenoch came from behind to defeat Kinlochshiel 5-3 after extra time and retain the Valerie Fraser Women's Camanachd Cup on women's finals day at Newtonmore. This also gave Badenoch the women's shinty league and cup treble. In the first half, Lorna MacRae hit the post for Kinlochshiel before Lexie MacKenzie stopped a ball from MacRae dead with her stick and fired home from 20 yards to put the Wester Ross side in front midway through the first half. Six minutes into the second, a period of intense Kinlochshiel goalmouth pressure eventually led to the ball breaking to Alaina MacLennan, who grabbed their second from at an acute angle. Badenoch responded with Kirsty Deans netting a quick double just before the hour to draw level. Extra time had barely started when Lorna MacRae shot Shiel ahead again but Badenoch's reaction was rapid when Hope Borthwick, daughter of manager Iain, burst through to equalise and Lexi Farquhar put them ahead for the first time. Borthwick then extended Badenoch's lead with the final goal. In a remarkable rollercoaster second-tier Mowi Challenge Cup final, Eilidh Cameron's fourth and final goal for Dunadd also became their winner for a 7-6 victory. Opponents Aberdour went 2-0 up but Dunadd then edged 3-2 ahead before Aberdour got it to 4-3. A second Dunadd equaliser was soon neutralised and the score went to 6-4 for Aberdour before Iona MacCulloch completed her hat-trick with the equaliser and Cameron stretched her tally to four, including the winner. For Aberdour, Rebecca Thorington scored a hat-trick, Katie Booth grabbed a double and Matilda Ritchie a single. The only men's fixture was the annual contest for the Caol Cup between the under-21s of the north and the south at Strathpeffer, where a 5-0 north victory provided another reminder of the disparity between shinty's two areas. Fort William's Archie MacKinnon scored the opener after 20 minutes and Archie Millar of Skye and Daniel MacLean of Glenurquhart made it 3-0 at half-time. Fort's Jack Kearney netted the fourth immediately after the restart and MacLean completed his double.
