‘We are in a really good space’ – Spurs boss Ho previews opener against West Ham United

‘We are in a really good space’ – Spurs boss Ho previews opener against West Ham United Tottenham Hotspur head coach Martin Ho says that his side are in a good space as they look to build on last season’s achievements. The Lilywhites impressed under Ho in 2025/2026, finishing in fifth place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table. Spurs have had a solid summer in the transfer market and they are now ready to go again. When speaking to the media ahead of this afternoon’s opening Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against West Ham United, Spurs boss Ho said that his side are in a good place as they look to mix it with the division’s elite. “All we are trying to do is focus on what we can do, working towards what we set out to do; to evolve the team, to be more sustainable over the long-term but really work towards what we want this team and football club to look like,” Ho said. “We are in a really good space. We have trained hard and had a really good pre-season. You want to be spoken about with those [top] teams but you only get that if you earn the right and respect for that. It starts with performances, it starts with on the pitch and off the pitch behaviours too. If we do that, we will be spoken about amongst those [top] teams. I’m a big believer that you have to earn that first.” Going on to discuss targets for the new season, Ho highlighted the importance of being consistent week-on-week. He said “I’ll never put a ceiling on anything because when you do that and get there, you maybe think that the job is done. I’ve we perform to the level that we can and we find really good consistency, I believe that with the squad depth and quality that we’ve got, we can be really competitive domestically in all competitions. “We need to make sure that we don’t get too far ahead of ourselves because we’ve got a lot of work to do. We can’t have one season then expect to be a world-class team but I believe that we can be competitive in those cup competitions and we want to better what we did last year, get to semi-finals, finals and start bringing silverware back to this club. In the league campaign, if we are consistent and perform at a high level on a weekly basis, we know we can compete with anyone.” Spurs open the new campaign with a London derby against West Ham United and Ho is expecting a very competitive game. He said “It’s a good way to start with a London derby. It’ll give the players a little bit of bit between their teeth. It’s a good opening game for the neutral and both sets of fans. “It’s a very different, organised [West Ham], especially with personnel. Rita [Guarino] has had a full pre-season to really embed what she wants. We know it’s going to be a different type of challenge, it’s going to be a competitive derby. West Ham will be organised, effective and they have some very dangerous players.” Tottenham Hotspur’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against West Ham United kicks-off at 12pm.
