Against Valencia, he provided the control that allowed Pedri and the forwards to express themselves with greater freedom.  For Flick, that balance could prove just as important as Rodri’s passing ability or defensive work. And for Bernal, having a player of Rodri’s experience alongside him could offer a different kind of education – one that develops through watching, communicating and sharing the demands of midfield football.
