Guglielmo Vicario speaks out on Roberto De Zerbi relationship after leaving Tottenham
Guglielmo Vicario has praised Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi for being a "man of his word" after a prolonged summer transfer saga ended with his move to Juventus . The Italian keeper failed to play a single minute under De Zerbi , as a hernia operation in March sidelined him during the early matches of the manager’s tenure, allowing Antonin Kinsky to seize his opportunity. Spurs promptly handed Czech goalkeeper Kinsky a new contract after securing Premier League safety and allowed Vicario to depart, though his season-long loan switch to Juventus was only finalised on August 18. Asked about his relationship with De Zerbi during an interview with Sky Sports Italia this month, Vicario said: "Fantastic, from the first day. "I thank him, I did it personally the day I signed with Juventus. With me he was a real person, direct and above all a man of his word. The Italy international joined Tottenham in 2023 and went on to help the club win the Europa League under Ange Postecoglou two years later. However, Vicario suffered a downturn in form during the 2025-26 season, departing after making 117 appearances for the club. His loan to Juventus contains an option to make the move permanent for a fee of 10 million euros (£8.5m). Reflecting on his final season at Tottenham, Vicario added: "There have been some dynamics that have not aligned, probably for several reasons that make no sense to mention now." Vicario was one of 19 senior departures from Spurs this summer, but Richarlison stayed after the transfer windows in Turkey and Saudi Arabia closed over the weekend. De Zerbi omitted Richarlison from Tottenham’s 25-man Premier League squad on Thursday, with the Brazilian forward now set to watch on from the sidelines for the rest of 2026. Spurs are still searching for their first win of the season after being held to a goalless draw by Nottingham Forest on Saturday following defeats by Brentford and Newcastle.
