‘I think that’s something to celebrate’ – Jeglertz on milestone moment for Manchester City Manchester City head coach Andrée Jeglertz was pleased to see the club create new history in their 3-1 victory over newly-promoted Birmingham City at The Joie Stadium on Sunday. Mary Fowler netted the opener for The Cityzens, their 1,000th goal in competitive football. Khadija Shaw then added a brace before Océane Hurtré pulled one back for the visitors. When speaking to the media after the match, Manchester City boss Jeglertz saw plenty of positives. “I’m very pleased with the win, very pleased with the second half,” Jeglertz said. “Lauren Hemp played 200 games for the club, amazing, Carlotta [Wamser] making her debut, Beth [Mead] had her debut for us, so that’s very good things for us. “We created a lot of scoring chances, especially in the second half which I think is on a good level. First off, it was a little bit hesitant, but second half [was good].” Going on to discuss Manchester City’s 1000-goal milestone, Jeglertz said that it was an achievement to celebrate. He said “I think that’s something to celebrate for the club. I don’t know what I have contributed to that; I think during the last year and put a starter this year. It is about creating scoring chances and scoring goals and I think it’s more about what kind of players we have. We have Bunny [Shaw], Beth Mead is here now, Mary Fowler is here, there are players that can score and we have different kinds of players that can do that. I’m not sure I’ll be sitting here when you celebrate 2000 goals but we’ll see.” Lauren Hemp made her 200th appearance for Manchester City during the game and Jeglertz spoke about what it means to have a player like her in the team. He said “What I feel is fascinating with Lauren, there are a lot of things, but one thing is that if you come and watch one of our training sessions, she has the same enjoyment for playing football and I think that it’s also shown in the games. Our job is to put her in situations where she can show how good she is as a football player, but I really hope that she never loses that [enjoyment], because she’s always kicking the ball, she’s always there, she’s never too tired. She wants to be [there] and she loves football. “I think that is showing young players also what it’s about. They need to love to go to work and love to go to the football field. It’s not just a job, it’s also an identity and what she has done for the club in just 200 games, she’s still pretty young I would say. She can play many more games here and I think that’s amazing. To have a legacy already, that’s fascinating.” Manchester City are back in Barclays Women’s Super League action on Sunday when they travel to Villa Park to take on Aston Villa.
