'It just can't be happening' - fan on Balogun transfer

Everton fan Sarah Halpen has criticised the club's hierarchy for being "reactive" rather than "proactive" in the summer transfer window. The Toffees' business, which saw a £40m deal for forward Folarin Balogun collapse late on deadline day, has left manager David Moyes with just 18 senior outfield players until the next transfer window which opens on Friday, 1 January. "It just can't be happening," Halpen said on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club. "Beto's departure to Fiorentina has to come after the Folarin Balogun deal is completed or another striker comes in, for me. "It might have looked like it was basically done but obviously anything can happen in a medical and ultimately a player can decide they no longer want to sign for a club. "But the timing of it all left us with no time at all to bring in another option. "We do still have Thierno Barry, who has started the season quite well with a good goal against Crystal Palace and a hat-trick in the Carabao Cup, but it is only his second season and he is still young and raw. "Transfer business cannot be reactive. You have to be proactive and get things done. I think it is safe to say it was an appalling window for us in that respect.
