Kerjota transformative - but has he earned a start?

[BBC] [BBC] If Hearts' mentality was in question after that late collapse against Aberdeen just over a month ago, Sunday's stoppage-time winner from Sabah Kerjota offered a pretty emphatic response. This was a side showing the resilience Wouter Vrancken is trying to build. It's funny; at 1-0 down the mood inside Tynecastle felt more resigned than expectant. The supporters around me were saying Hearts could have played all afternoon without seriously troubling the Dundee defence. Then everything changed. VAR Andrew Dallas intervened in two major incidents missed by referee Chris Graham, while the introduction of supersub Sabah transformed hope into genuine belief. Kerjota spent his half hour on the pitch slaloming past Dundee defenders before superbly finding the bottom corner in the sixth minute of injury time. There will inevitably be calls for the Albanian to start, although I am not convinced Stenhousemuir away in the League Cup quarter-final is the occasion to make that change. The tie gives Vrancken a real chance to reach Hampden within months of taking charge. Stenny's victory over a weakened Motherwell side in the previous round should serve as a warning this is not a match for wholesale rotation. Harry Milne, Calvin Miller and Josh McPake have all played in the lower leagues and their experience of these grounds should help set the tone for the more continental members of Vrancken's squad. Speaking of continental influence, new Scotland head coach Sebastien Pocognoli is due to name his first squad next week and it will be fascinating to see whether any Hearts players receive a call-up. Miller and McPake must be in the conversation. I would even select them ahead of Ben Gannon-Doak, given how little football he has played over the past couple of years. Miller already has four goals this season, while McPake has seven goal involvements in nine appearances. The latter's sublime strike of course capped last week's emphatic Edinburgh derby victory. I genuinely expect Stenhousemuir to present a sterner test than Hibs managed in those opening 45 minutes.
