Carlisle sign forward Obiero from Wealdstone

Carlisle United have signed forward Micah Obiero from fellow National League club Wealdstone on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee. The 25-year-old, whose contract includes the option of a further year, previously spent time on loan at Brunton Park from Huddersfield Town in 2020. Obiero made his senior debut in the Championship for Huddersfield after coming through the Terriers' academy and had a loan spell with Halifax Town and a brief stint at Boston United before making the move to Wealdstone in 2022. He established himself as a National League regular at Grosvenor Vale and scored 17 goals for Wealdstone last season, which earned him a call up to the Kenya national side in the summer. Obiero's prolific form has continued into the new campaign, with three goals in the opening weeks of the season, including two in the win over Sutton United, and Blues boss Rob Elliot believes he can be a difference maker in matches. "Micah's an exciting player, he's got huge technical ability, scores a lot of goals and has great pace and power," Elliot told the Carlisle United website . "He works hard and he's got that little bit of magic as well, which can unlock teams. "He gives us a different dimension to our attack and he's someone we also think can be developed and get better within the squad. He fits into what we're trying to do. He's young, he's hungry and we're really looking forward to working with him." Carlisle, beaten play-off semi-finalists last season, sit 14th in the National League and host third-placed Southend United on Saturday.
