Chelsea stage incredible comeback, knock Leeds out of the League Cup (video)
If Chelsea go on to have an incredible season under Xabi Alonso, Wednesday may wind up being a flashy, Vegas-style sign post on that journey. Days after a disappointing loss to Arsenal, Alonso's much-changed men went down 2-0 to Leeds United in the League Cup. Tarik Muharemovic's header and Brenden Aaronsn's early second-half late-arriving run helped Leeds to their two-goal lead in the 48th minute, minutes after Alonso had inserted Reece James, Moran Rogers, Cole Palmer, and Pedro Neto into the fray. There weren't many down moments after that. Rogers then set up Pedro Neto in the 60th minute and Danny Welbeck in the 65th and the Blues had turned the tie on its head and nailed it into the ground: 4-2. Dominic Calvert-Lewin pulled Leeds back within one and Chelsea seemed to immediately look upon their visitors as audacious just for trying, with Valentin Barco restoring a two-goal cushion with five minutes and Welbeck scoring deep in stoppage time to give the scoreboard a wild pair of crooked numbers: 6-3 to the Blues.
