'Jaissle has belief in Willock' - Anderson

[Getty Images] Joe Willock's Newcastle journey has been full of ups and downs. After an emphatic start to life on Tyneside under former boss Steve Bruce during the 2020-21 campaign, the 27-year-old's goalscoring form has considerably slowed down. In 14 appearances on loan, Willock scored eight goals, seven of which were in consecutive games to equal Alan Shearer's club record. However, after his £20m arrival in August 2021 on a six-year deal, the goals were harder to come by. Former Magpies defender John Anderson told BBC Radio Newcastle: "When he was on loan here everyone was saying sign him. When you sign him, the goals then dry up." Willock has featured in 173 games for Newcastle since his permanent move, scoring 13 goals. But with a new manager in town, and a string of games under his belt, could this be the time Willock proves his worth at Newcastle? "He worked his socks off [against Millwall ]. He is getting his opportunities because of the injury to Will Osula, but he is doing well," added Anderson. "He has not had a sustained period of being in the side and playing consistent games. Matthias Jaissle has come in and given him the opportunity and he obviously has belief in him. "The goal was a great finish.
