Stats: Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal justifies captain’s armband with superb Feyenoord display Lamine Yamal took another major step in his Barcelona development on Wednesday night, becoming the youngest captain in the history of the club’s first team, at 19 years and 58 days, during the 5-1 Champions League victory over Feyenoord . The moment arrived after Raphinha and Pedri had both left the pitch, leaving the captain’s armband on Yamal’s arm.  Barcelona needed a convincing start to their European campaign and delivered one at Camp Nou.  Yamal was central to the performance, producing a goal, two assists and a series of moments that showed why he has become one of the most influential players in Flick’s team . After being elected as the team’s fifth captain , he was finally given the opportunity to wear the armband and take responsibility on a Champions League night. Yamal provided assists for Raphinha and Gabriel Jesus before scoring his first goal of the night with a superb direct free-kick.  His effort travelled through a wall that parted slightly before catching the Feyenoord goalkeeper by surprise. His celebration added another memorable detail, as Yamal immediately headed towards the bench, where Raphinha was sitting, sharing the moment with the player who had passed the captaincy to him earlier in the match. Speaking of numbers, Yamal finished with four shots, two of them on target, while creating four key passes.  He completed 44 of 47 passes, giving him a passing accuracy of 93%, while his accuracy in his own half was one percentage point higher. Barcelona’s young leader continues to grow Notably, Yamal was involved in 76 plays during the match, completed 22 ball carries and made eight progressive carries.  Defensively, he recovered four balls, showing that his influence was not limited to what he produced in the final third. Those numbers help explain why his role within Barcelona has expanded so quickly. He is no longer simply the exciting young winger capable of producing individual brilliance.  Rather, Flick is now trusting him with responsibility, and the captaincy against Feyenoord was the clearest indication yet.
