First win a 'release' as re-build continues - Murray

Adam Murray wants Barrow to build on their first win of the season [Getty Images] Manager Adam Murray says Barrow felt a "release of frustration" rather than celebration after their first win of the National League season. The Bluebirds beat Sutton United 3-0 at Holker Street last Saturday to register their first victory of the new campaign after struggling for points in the early weeks of the season following relegation from League Two. That prompted emotional scenes at the final whistle as staff, players and supporters soaked in the three points and Murray insists that winning feeling has to become normal for everyone at the club as they continue their re-building journey. "There was a good feel around the place but, if anything, it has put more focus into the group," Murray told BBC Radio Cumbria . "The performance levels were high again and we finally got the rub of the green and actually punished a team rather than letting a team off the hook. It has brought a good energy into the group but now we move swiftly on." Murray thrilled with Barrow double signing Ward out to build Barrow momentum after first win Victory lifted Barrow out of the bottom four and eased any early pressure on Murray, who took over in the summer after leading Kidderminster Harriers to promotion to the National League. "We said after the Harrogate game [2-2 draw], the similarity in the two clubs is they got relegated like us, but the differences are chalk and cheese," added Murray. "We are building a football club here, we are not just coming back from a relegation, we are building a whole football club from scratch and when you do get victories it means an awful lot. "I think [the full-time scenes] were a release of frustration more than anything from everyone - supporters, players, staff and myself. We want more of that - that should be the norm. "For me personally, I am used to that feeling, I am used to winning. I am not used to losing football matches so it was nice to get back to feeling normal and to what it should be feeling like." "[Sutton] was a good win and good three points but it is only three points," Murray, whose side travel to newly-promoted Worthing on Saturday, added. "But it was a big step in our journey and now we have to take the positives from that and keep building to get even better. "If I am being brutal, I think we are at 50-60% of what we can be. But that's a good thing because we have so much growth within us in a really tough league. "I've seen how good these boys can be. When I think back to pre-season and we were blowing teams away, when there is no pressure on and everyone is playing free and full of confidence, that's where we need to get to. Hopefully Saturday was a building block to that."
