Charlton boss Nathan Jones accuses official of looking at him ‘like I’d volleyed his cat’

Charlton manager Nathan Jones accused an assistant referee of looking at him "like I’d volleyed his cat" as he delivered a second scathing critique of officials in a matter of days. Tyreece Campbell’s first-half goal against QPR on Wednesday was disallowed after assistant referee Bhupinder Gill flagged the Jamaica striker offside. The decision proved crucial as the Sky Bet Championship London derby at The Valley ended 0-0. "They were giving offsides willy-nilly, we had one offside which wasn’t," Jones told Sky Sports after the game. "The goal is a great goal from a great counter-attack, it’s onside and it (the decision) has cost us three points once again. "I think the arrogance of the linesman is mental because he’s looking at me as if I’ve just volleyed his cat. He’s looking at me as if I have done something and going ‘nah’. Jones hit out at the officials after Wednesday's match (PA) "He’s made the biggest error of the night and he’s cost us the game and that is the Championship because the Championship is brutal." Jones had also condemned referee Robert Madley following Charlton's 4-0 defeat at Stoke on Saturday, a game featuring a penalty for the Potters’ opening goal. He said: "I’ve gone in and seen him (the referee). I’m bitterly disappointed with my own team’s performance, but I’m as bitterly disappointed with another performance as well. "There were so many things that went against us." Whether Jones risks attracting the anger of animal lovers following his post-match outburst remains to be seen, but the 53-year-old Welshman is renowned for colourful quotes across a managerial career featuring spells at Luton, Stoke and Southampton. Speaking about the ambition that ultimately carried him into the Premier League with Southampton, Jones remarked: "I could have stayed in a mining community, been a PE teacher and had a nice life, married a nice Welsh girl. "Beautiful. I didn’t. And that’s nothing against Welsh women." Charlton now sit fifth in the Championship table, just two points behind early pace-setters West Brom, after picking up 11 points from their opening six matches. They will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Portsmouth.
