Lack of action a 'blessing in disguise' for Pressley's Dundee

Steven Pressley says only having one game in five weeks is a "blessing in disguise" for depleted Dundee. Due to their League Cup exit and the upcoming international break, their league visit of Motherwell a week on Saturday is Dundee's only match until 10 October. With a number of players out injured - including midfielder Finlay Robertson, who has joined striker Simon Murray in being ruled out for the season with ACL damage - and midfielder Zan Besir suspended, Pressley's squad is being severely tested. The Dens boss told BBC Scotland: "The real focus this year was to build a strong but very unified squad with low numbers because we felt that at a club like ourselves the culture and involvement of all players is very important and we thought we had got there. "But with the news we have had recently it is very difficult. "I also think to the summer, the length of time we worked on certain aspects. We worked with three strikers over the summer months and all three are out injured at present - Joe Westley, Simon Murray and Ash Hay. "So it is difficult and that is why in some ways for ourselves the one game in five weeks is actually a blessing in disguise. "It really is, because we have a new goalkeeper in the building, we have two new strikers that need to adapt, we have another midfielder in (Jack) Moorhouse, we have still got our new recruits in the summer trying to adjust to how we really want to play. "So it is a big five weeks for us to be able to get on to the grass and not have the pressures of the game at the weekend. "We are going to work really hard because there are a number of areas we really need to improve on that have been glaring in the opening five, six games of the season."
