Lille’s Ethan Mbappé risks five-game ban

Lille’s Ethan Mbappé risks five-game ban Ethan Mbappé (19) risks a ban of up to five games for his red card during Lille OSC’s loss to Real Betis on Tuesday (2-3), as per a report from L’Équipe . Mbappé was shown a straight red card in the 56th minute of the fixture, just after the Spanish side netted their third and ultimately deciding goal. The Frenchman, brother of Real Madrid forward Kylian, raised his arm into the face of Natan just as play was set to resume. It was missed by the referee but not by VAR. Regardless of the decision taken by UEFA’s Disciplinary Committee, the Paris Saint-Germain academy product is certain to miss LOSC’s next UCL game, against Arsenal. Mbappé runs the risk of a three-game ban, but if the act is adjudged to be one of “severe aggression,” then he could face a five-game ban, thus ruling him out of half of LOSC’s UCL ‘League Phase’ games. UEFA’s verdict is expected before the end of September. GFFN | Luke Entwistle
