The agreement over a new contract comes following an expression of interest in Scalvini from Premier League side Newcastle , who spent an Italian-record fee to sign Sandro Tonali from Milan in the summer of 2023 (a record that has since been broken by Tonali’s transfer from Newcastle to Tottenham). Atalanta’s stance has always been that Scalvini is an ‘untouchable’ player, one that is not up for sale and one who is of crucial importance to recently-appointed head coach Maurizio Sarri.
