Former Gunner still waiting on work permit after transfer exit Reiss Nelson is still waiting on a work permit to officially link up with his new Feyenoord teammates, suffering with the same wait period as former Arsenal loanee Raheem Sterling. Photo by Alex Caparros/Getty Images Reiss Nelson left Arsenal after having his contract terminated this summer, and he ultimately completed a free transfer move back to former club Feyenoord . Nelson’s transfer to Feyenoord was officially announced on September 2nd, but the winger is yet to feature with his new club since then. The former Gunner was absent against NEC Nijmegen at the weekend, he wasn’t in the squad for Wednesday’s game away to Barcelona , and he hasn’t even been involved in training. So what’s happening? Photo via Arsenal.com Prior to the Barcelona game, Dennis van Eersel reported (via Goal ) that Nelson wouldn’t be involved in Spain, with an ongoing work permit issue. Manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst had suggested he was hoping the work permit would be sorted in time for the Barcelona match, but that ended up not being the case. Raheem Sterling faced the same issue after joining Feyenoord last year, signing for the club on February 12th, but only having his permit finally approved on February 19th. Sterling missed an Eredivisie match against the Go Ahead Eagles whilst he was waiting, and he was only able to train with the team when they left the country for a training camp. Photo via Feyenoord Given Nelson’s transfer was announced on September 2nd, an equivalent delay would suggest he should have had his permit on the 9th. Perhaps it was simply too late for the game that same day. The former Arsenal academy winger will now hope to be involved against PEC Zwolle on Sunday, assuming he can get his permit and play a part in training with his new team before then.
