Brady does not want Vale fans to be unhappy

Port Vale boss Jon Brady says he does not like the fans feeling unhappy because of the club's poor start to the season and is prepared to shoulder the criticism that comes his way as a result. Following last season's relegation from League One, Vale are winless after five games of the new campaign and have slipped to the bottom of League Two. "I understand everyone's frustration, we talked about it, we want to be in a better position," Brady told BBC Radio Stoke. "I want it to feel we're all together. I don't want to be in this situation, no one wants to be in this situation, but we can all come together for 90 minutes or from the first whistle to the final whistle and be united? That would be amazing." After a defeat to Oldham on the opening day, Vale drew with Tranmere and neighbours Crewe Alexandra to get their season up and running but followed their 3-1 defeat at Swindon at the start of the month with Saturday's 1-0 loss at Salford. In a tight game, Vale were left to rue a mistake from goalkeeper Jackson Smith for Salford's winner - an error which Brady said was out of character for his side. "The goal we conceded on Saturday, various goals, have been uncharacteristic from us last season and uncharacteristic throughout pre-season," he said. "They're just errors that are costing us either a win or a draw. Obviously, we've got to score more goals as well and that's what we've been working on all week." Vale have only scored twice so far - a long-standing issue that Brady described as "not a quick fix". "Last season I took over the job we were the second-lowest scorers in the EFL," he said. "People go out and spend millions on strikers and they don't work out. It's not a quick fix at all." With Exeter City - also relegated last season - coming to Vale Park on Saturday, Brady knows the atmosphere might be a bit tense and more fan frustration could be round the corner. "When you have a run of results that aren't in your favour, it's the job," he said. "I don't want our fans feeling that. I really shoulder that because I want to send them away happy; happy about their team, proud about their team. "I don't want them to feel like they're feeling. I won't ever shirk it, I'll face it. "In any job, you go through some real tough times and it's how you come out the other side - you can be a lot stronger for it. "I'm determined as ever to try to get the best result we can and move forward from there. If we can get that result, it turns that momentum." All the latest Port Vale news
