Exclusive: Flick very happy with Barcelona academy starlet who was close to summer exit Barça Universal can exclusively claim, through information received from journalist Adrian Sanchez, that Hansi Flick is very pleased with Brian Farinas after the Barcelona youngster chose to stay at the club despite receiving offers to leave. It must be remembered that Farinas was close to an exit during the summer, with Girona emerging as the strongest option for the midfielder.  The appeal was that of regular first-team football and the chance to accelerate his development away from Barcelona. Instead, Flick intervened. Flick sees Farinas as a first-team rotation option Farinas has yet to make his senior debut, so there is still plenty he needs to prove, but that has not stopped Flick from being satisfied with what he has seen.  As per our information, the expectation is that Farinas will primarily operate as a rotation option for the first team this season rather than immediately becoming a regular starter. Farinas now has the opportunity he was looking for without leaving the club to find it. Staying could prove a crucial decision The midfielder’s decision to reject a move could ultimately be one of the more important choices of his early career. A Girona loan may have offered more guaranteed minutes, but remaining at Barcelona gives Farinas daily exposure to Flick’s first-team environment and the possibility of earning competitive appearances. The manager’s personal backing is particularly significant as well, as Flick was the one who asked him to stay, and he is now very happy with the decision Farinas made. So now, the next step is to turn that confidence into minutes.
