€50m star could be on his way to Liverpool, he's incredible Liverpool are reportedly in the running for a €50m signing. An incredible talent could be on his way to Liverpool. Liverpool are building their transfer plans for 2027 and there's certainly work to be done. The squad left by Richard Hughes is missing key components and even the short-term future looks unclear in areas. One of those areas is centre-back. Liverpool currently have five senior options at the club but all have some degree of uncertainty. Virgil van Dijk, for instance, is out of contract next summer. Joe Gomez is, too. Ronald Araujo's loan deal will expire unless Liverpool pay €50m to make it permanent. That leaves Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni as the only centre-backs definitely at Liverpool beyond this season. And both are relatively unknown quantities - Jacquet is the eldest at 21 and he's coming off shoulder surgery. Leoni has been out for around a year after a serious knee injury and it still only 19. And so Liverpool will need to re-enter the market for a centre-back in 2027. It appears they're already lining one up, too. Liverpool like Finn Jeltsch TuttoJuve reports that Liverpool are in the mix for Finn Jeltsch, who could leave Stuttgart next year. The 19-year-old enjoyed a breakout campaign in the Bundesliga. Jeltsch was one of only 14 teenage centre-backs to play at least 1000 minutes across the top five leagues last season. Bump that figure up to 1500 and he was one of only 10 - and our Value Adder model has him at around the 5th-best of that group. It's why Stuttgart won't sell cheap. They want €50m, says the report, and half of Europe is interested in the player. Arsenal, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are all mentioned as keeping tabs. A fight is on for him, in other words. But we're not convinced that Liverpool will ultimately bite. They may well push for a massive talent but a third young centre-back? That seems questionable to say the least. The only centre-backs definitely at the club beyond this season have an average age of 20. Adding another 20-year-old in 2027 seems insane - but they may also simply feel that's where the value is. One to keep an eye on, then.
