Coventry loanee on course for best goalscoring season with three goals in six games for Westerlo Norman Bassette appears to have found a home back in Belgian football. The striker, on loan at Westerlo from Coventry , scored his third goal in six games for the Belgian side as they beat Standard Liege 4-2 in an exciting encounter on Saturday afternoon. Bassette has been considered a player with great potential, which was one of the reasons why Coventry signed him from Caen back in 2024. However, he has yet to really show that he will live up to the promise. However, with three goals already in just six games for Westerlo, the 21-year-old looks set to enjoy his career best scoring season, if he can just find three more goals. Prior to joining Coventry, Bassette had scored five goals for KV Mechelen while on loan from Caen. Since then, he played 29 games for Coventry and scored twice, before a loan spell at Reims saw a similar goal return in 13 games. The second half of last season saw Bassette loaned out by Coventry to Kaiserslautern after he returned from Reims midway through the season. During his time in Germany, the Belgian striker scored two goals in 16 games. Clearly, Bassette was unlikely to be much of a factor this season for Coventry after they won promotion to the Premier League. While he has a contract until 2028 with Coventry, Westerlo and the Premier League side included a purchase option for the striker in the loan deal. Westerlo brought Bassette in to replace Nacho Ferri, who joined Feyenoord this summer. The Spanish striker scored 11 goals in 37 games for Westerlo last season, a number that Bassette should be aiming to match after his strong start to the current campaign. GBeNeFN  |  Ben Jackson
