More attacking frustration for Exeter City boss Taylor

Matt Taylor has led Exeter City to one win in League Two this season [Shutterstock] Exeter City manager Matt Taylor says his side have to improve their attacking form after their 1-0 loss at Port Vale. The hosts went into the game bottom of League Two having not won a game all season, but claimed victory thanks to a 70th-minute George Byers penalty after Luca Woodhouse had fouled Jordan Gabriel in the box. The Grecians failed to have a shot on target as they slipped to 20th in the division after their third defeat in six League Two matches. City's four goals this season is the second-lowest total in the division. "We have to be honest in terms of where we're at as an attacking output team," Taylor told BBC Radio Devon. "It's not where it needs to be in terms of our chances created, our set-piece moments, the moments we do get in the opposition half, let alone the final third, don't culminate in enough box entries and enough chances." Exeter saw a host of experienced players leave in the summer after relegation from League One and their financial restrictions have meant they have been limited in who they can sign. The club sold last season's top-scorer Jayden Wareham towards the end of August but no not have the resources to bring in any free-agent signings now that the transfer window is closed. They went into the Port Vale game on the back of consecutive home League Two draws - 0-0 against Walsall and 1-1 with Barnet - where they again struggled to find the net. "At the moment, I can't fault the honesty of the group, but I'm well aware exactly where we are," Taylor said. "We should be stood here with four more points than we've got because of putting the ball in the back of the net in those home games. "That stress will continue, and unfortunately stress can turn into a dip in confidence because then all of a sudden it becomes form because you're not picking up enough points. "So I've got to be so careful in terms of where the group are and their understanding and expectations, but they know as much as I do we've got to be better than we were in the second half today."
