Chelsea secure huge victory at Manchester United
Chelsea secure huge victory at Manchester United Chelsea made easy work of Manchester United as they recorded a 5-0 victory at the Progress with Unity Stadium this afternoon. Five different players got their names on the scoresheet as The Blues collected their first win of the new season. It was the visitors who started off stronger, as Lauren James’ shot went wide within the first two minutes. At the other end, Elisabeth Terland received the ball, but her effort was too weak and was easily saved by Hannah Hampton. Katie McCabe’s floated delivery then landed on the top of the net before Ellie Carpenter’s low ball was cleared. Chelsea got off the mark in the 21st minute through Sjoeke Nüsken. A long ball into the box created a problem for the hosts and Dominique Janssen failed to gauge the ball. Wieke Kaptein was able to steal it and cross to Nüsken for a simple but effective finish. Manchester United tried to find the equaliser and Monica Jusu Bah got her head to the ball, but she was flagged offside. Chelsea then got a second goal through Keira Walsh. It was a classic Walsh goal. Lucy Bronze sent the ball through to the midfielder and she took just one touch and sent a shot straight past Phallon Tullis-Joyce. James attempted a volley, but Tullis-Joyce saved it well before the England international got her goal to make it three for The Blues. Walsh perfectly slipped the ball through to James, who then sent a shot low and straight past the helpless keeper. Carpenter then scored Chelsea’s fourth. Kaptein played the ball through to the Australian, whose first effort was saved by Tullis-Joyce. The ball fell back to Carpenter, who fired into the back of the net at the second attempt. Bronze then completed the scoring in the final moments when she slammed home after a scramble in the box. This afternoon’s result sees Chelsea move onto four points while Manchester United have started with back-to-back defeats.
