‘A big job to do, but I like the challenge’ – Olid on Manchester United’s tough start
‘A big job to do, but I like the challenge’ – Olid on Manchester United’s tough start Manchester United head coach Eva Olid says that there’s a big job ahead as her side look to recover from back-to-back defeats at the start of the new season. The Red Devils lost 2-1 at London City Lionesses last weekend before going down 5-0 to Chelsea on home soil this afternoon. The Chelsea game was the first home fixture for new Manchester United boss Olid and she provided her reflections on her side’s performance when speaking to the media after the match. “We knew it would be difficult,” Olid admitted. “I watched last week, Chelsea against Aston Villa, they were incredible and I knew that they would come strong. You can see that is a team that has been working together a long time and they know exactly what they have to do. “We knew it would be a difficult game, but I had the confidence that we could improve from the last game. Of course, the opposition was hard to do that improvement, but I believed that we could do [it]. “I think there is something about confidence. Of course, we knew we would have to defend in moments, but I think we could have more of the ball.” Olid went on to highlight areas that her side need to improve going forwards with more tough tests looming. She said “I think we need more mobility, more quick combinations under pressure because sometimes under pressure, we do extra touches, like all our basic simple position. We need to have the ball and move it quicker. If we are slow moving the ball, these teams are going to come [at you], but if we have quick movements, quick moving of the ball, we are out of the pressure and then we can progress. It’s like we stay stuck in an area because we don’t move the ball quicker, we have slow movements. That is what we are trying to improve and to implement how we want to play.” Olid also indicated that she feels that her team needs to have more confidence within themselves and as a collective going forwards. She said “One part is training, but the other part is confidence. If the players start having that confidence, it will help a lot. If they believe and they have confidence in themselves, that helps with the ball. “It’s a process, it is a big job to do, but I like the challenge.” Manchester United have another tough fixture on Saturday evening when they travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal.
