Suwen Süper Ligi: Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş set for first real test of new league season Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş have won their opening three matches of the Turkish Süper Lig without conceding, making their September 19th meeting the first serious comparison between the season’s two perfect starters. The early results make that comparison particularly useful. Three rounds have produced 23-0, 12-0, 8-0, 6-0 and 5-0 scorelines. The table therefore says as much about the opposition faced as it does about the teams collecting the points. Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş nevertheless have identical records. More useful evidence comes from Fenerbahçe’s other two results. They began with a 2-0 victory over 2024/25 champions ABB FOMGET before winning 3-0 away to Amed SK. Amed responded by beating Kayseri Kadın 3-0 on Saturday. Fenerbahçe conceded only nine goals in 30 league matches last season. Three more clean sheets suggest that the defensive base of the side has survived the summer changes. Beşiktaş enter the equation Beşiktaş have reached the same point despite starting the season outside the leading group of title contenders. They began the season outside the leading group identified in the season preview. They scored freely last year without sustaining a title challenge. Five different players scored as they won 5-0 away to Haymanaspor on Sunday, taking their record to nine points, eight goals scored and none conceded. Their first two victories had both been narrower, but the defensive consistency has been the same. What remains unclear is how much can be inferred from the opposition they have faced. Haymanaspor had won 8-0 in the previous round before losing by five to Beşiktaş seven days later. Beşiktaş nevertheless arrive at the meeting with Fenerbahçe having done everything asked of them: three wins, three clean sheets and a place level with the champions. Eight days after beating Giresun Sanayispor 23-0, the Ankara side lost 6-0 to Galatasaray on Sunday. A team capable of winning by 23 goals was itself beaten by six in its next league match. Cristina Martín-Prieto scored a hat-trick as Galatasaray recorded their first victory of the campaign. FOMGET have now lost to Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray, two sides expected to occupy the upper end of the table. They have also recorded one of the most extreme victories the league has seen. Questions around the challengers Galatasaray’s victory also changes the context around their slow start. They drew 0-0 with Trabzonspor on the opening weekend and were then held 1-1 at Hakkarigücü, leaving them with one goal from their first two matches. Six against FOMGET provides the first evidence that the earlier shortage of goals may have reflected the fixtures rather than a broader attacking problem. Trabzonspor face a different question. They scored 106 league goals while finishing second last season but lost leading scorer Natalia Oleszkiewicz to Montpellier during the summer. With one goal from their first two completed matches, there is not yet much evidence that her production has been replaced. Their opening draw with Galatasaray was followed by another draw at Hakkarigücü, where they went behind before Abigail Kofi Kim equalised. Hakkarigücü have now taken points from both Galatasaray and Trabzonspor. A table still difficult to read There are complications further down the division. Bakırköy Kadın Futbol did not take the field at Trabzonspor in round two. Trabzonspor said the match ‘was not played because the opposing team did not come out onto the pitch’ and that the federation would determine the outcome. Sultanbeyli, meanwhile, have six points and 11 goals and host Galatasaray next. The first meaningful comparison Three rounds have established that Fenerbahçe remain difficult to score against, that Beşiktaş deserve to be included in the early conversation and that Galatasaray possess considerably more attacking potent.
