Barcelona can make history against Racing Santander with seventh straight win Barcelona have started the season in ruthless fashion, winning all six of their competitive matches. This tremendous start has put them one victory away from a club record that has never been achieved before. According to SPORT , Hansi Flick’s side have now matched the best start in Barcelona history after victories over Elche, Athletic Club, Rayo Vallecano, Valencia and Levante in La Liga, as well as Feyenoord in the Champions League. The first came all the way back in 1929-30 under James Bellamy. That team opened with a Spanish Super Cup victory against Sevilla, followed it with four straight league wins and then beat PSV 4-0 in Europe. All three reached six victories. None managed a seventh. Racing stand between Barcelona and history That gives Wednesday’s meeting with Racing Santander at the Spotify Camp Nou an extra layer of significance. A victory would make Flick’s current side the first Barcelona team ever to win their opening seven competitive matches in a season. This team have already faced different types of challenges. Some matches have been comfortable, while others, such as the 4-2 win over Levante , demanded a response when control temporarily disappeared. The Catalan club can only focus on what they can control and look to play their best game against Racing Santander. If a good performance results in them breaking a record, then that is a consequence of the team playing good football. Racing will be another test to see whether this young side can maintain that standard. Six from six is a good start, and it is now time to go for the seventh. Barça look like a team who are playing some sublime football, and it remains to be seen whether they can continue in the same vein in the coming weeks.
