Derry City twice pegged back for draw in Waterford

Derry City were twice pegged back by Waterford for a 2-2 draw in their Irish Premier Division clash at Waterford RSC. The result edges Derry City to within three points of fourth-place Dundalk who were thrashed 4-0 by St Patrick's Athletic who go top on goal difference. In wet and windy conditions, it was the visitors to Waterford who made the brighter start. Adam O'Reilly let fly with a stunning 40-yard strike into the to corner which gave the Candystripes a ninth-minute lead. The hosts drew level on the stroke of half time as Evan McLaughlin buried from close range after Jorgen Voilas saw his initial effort blocked down. James Clarke went close to restoring the lead for Mark Connolly's side four minutes into the second period, but two minutes later, Michael Duffy found the net with a curling effort with his right boot. Their lead was short-lived as Waterford were back on terms for a second time just six minutes later as Padraig Amond got on the end of Couto's delivery from a corner to nod home at the back post. Chances came and went for both but neither could find a winner as Derry City claimed a 14th draw of the season with the result keeping Waterford just above the relegation play-off position on scoring difference from Drogheda United who were 2-1 winners at Shelbourne.
