Laporta celebrates UEFA choosing Camp Nou as venue for 2029 Champions League final: ‘Immense source of pride’ Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, welcomed UEFA’s decision to select the Spotify Camp Nou as the venue for the 2029 Champions League final. The decision was announced earlier today by European football’s governing body , with Camp Nou being chosen over the Wembley Stadium in London. Laporta proud Speaking to the club’s media after UEFA’s Executive Committee meeting in Thessaloniki where the decision was made, Laporta described the decision as a major moment for the club. “It is an immense source of pride for FC Barcelona and for all Barça fans,” the club president said, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo . (Photo by David Ramos/Getty Images) “This choice is also international recognition for the new Spotify Camp Nou, which is establishing itself as a world-class stadium, at the forefront of experience, technology, connectivity, accessibility and services.” The 2029 final will be the third Champions League final hosted at Barcelona’s stadium, following the 1989 and 1999 finals, won by AC Milan and Manchester United, respectively. Laporta also highlighted the importance of UEFA’s decision for the relationship between the organisation and Barcelona, which has improved significantly since the club moved away from the Super League project. “UEFA’s confidence in hosting one of the great events in world football underlines the scale and ambition of this project and establishes Spotify Camp Nou as a new icon of Barcelona and an international reference point,” he said. (Photo by Eric Alonso/Getty Images) The Barcelona president also expressed his gratitude to the institutions that supported the club’s bid to host the Champions League final on 2 June 2029. “I would especially like to thank Barcelona City Council, the Generalitat de Catalunya and the RFEF for their support for this bid,” he said. “It is an achievement that we have reached together and one that projects Barcelona, Catalonia and FC Barcelona to the world.” The redevelopment of the stadium is expected to be completed in early 2028, with the third-tier stands expected to be completed by the end of the season and the roof scheduled to be installed during the summer of 2027. Once fully complete, the stadium can house a total of 105,000 fans.
