Notts County boss Paterson signs new contract

Martin Paterson has won 28 of his 61 matches since taking over as Notts County boss in June 2025 [Rex] Notts County head coach Martin Paterson has signed a new contract with the League One club, to tie him to Meadow Lane until the summer of 2029. The 39-year-old former Stoke City, Burnley and Northern Ireland international striker had his first crack at management at Burton Albion. He was appointed Notts boss in June 2025 - and won promotion back to League One at the first attempt via the League Two play-offs last season. Notts have since made a steady start to life back in English football's third tier. They drew four of their first five games, as well as beating Paterson's former club Burton. And Saturday's home defeat by Bradford City was their first league loss since 18 April. "We've established an excellent working relationship with Martin, who is a very strong head coach," said Notts owners Chris and Alex Reedtz in a statement. "He's implemented an ambitious culture within the football department and is meticulous in his approach to training and match preparation. "The high standards and expectations he sets fully aligns with our vision for the club and, together with Andy Edwards, Sam Slocombe and the rest of the staff, he has been able to continually improve the performance of the squad."
