Jersey Bulls knocked out of FA Cup at Burgess Hill Town

Burgess Hill Town and Jersey Bulls played out a goalless draw when they first met earlier this month [BBC] Jersey Bulls have been knocked out of the FA Cup after losing 3-1 at Burgess Hill Town in their first qualifying round replay. Burgess Hill needed just six minutes to go in front in the tie, which had been delayed by seven days after air traffic control problems prevented the island side from travelling last week. Former Peterborough United, Gillingham and Stevenage striker Chris Whelpdale powered in a header for the Isthmian League Premier Division side to give them the lead 10 days after the sides drew 0-0. Whelpdale made it 2-0 23 minutes in as he fired in his seventh of the season with his left foot. Jersey Bulls striker Lorne Bickley crashed an effort off the crossbar 10 minutes before half time while teammate Sammy Henia-Kamau had a shot deflected onto the post a minute into the second half. The islanders pulled a goal back five minutes later when Jay Giles fired a free kick into the bottom corner. Burgess Hill's Charlie Lambert twice went close to make it 3-1 - he had a good chance after an hour while he forced an excellent save from Bulls goalkeeper Euan van der Vliet with nine minutes to go. Bickley had a chance to equalise saved by Roco Rees soon after as the islanders unsuccessfully tried for an equaliser before Whelpdale headed in from an 89th-minute corner to compete his hat-trick and seal the win. Burgess Hill will travel to face Southern League Premier Division South side Hanwell Town in the second qualifying round on Saturday 19 September.
