Wycombe beat Chelsea Under-21s in EFL Trophy

Wycombe top their group with a win and draw from their opening two cup games [Getty Images] There was success for League One and League Two sides against Premier League Under-21 opposition in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday. Wycombe took charge of Southern Group C as they overcame a strong Chelsea Under-21 side 2-1 to make it four points from two games. Mohamed Keita broke the deadlock for the Chairboys midway through the second half and Caolan Boyd-Munce added a second late on, before the Blues pulled one back in stoppage time through former Wigan man Harrison Bettoni with an assist from Kendry Paez - who appeared in this summer's World Cup knockout phase for Ecuador. In their opening Northern Group D game, Chesterfield came out on top in an eight-goal thriller against Manchester City Under-21s. The Spireites went ahead through Joel Randall and though City levelled, Fraser Bryden made it 2-1. The visitors levelled before the break but Chey Dunkley made it 3-2 and Junior Eccleston gave the hosts a cushion 15 minutes from time, while Louie Marsh added some late gloss with a fifth before City's last-gasp consolation. Elsewhere, Swindon went down 2-1 at home to Crystal Palace Under-21s in their opening game in Southern Group D. Antwoine Hackford put the Robins ahead midway through the first half but Palace levelled on the stroke of half-time and scored the winner 10 minutes after the turnaround, during which Town brought on Freddie Hoare, eight days after his 16th birthday, to become the club's second youngest ever player. It was a near-identical story for Leyton Orient in Group F as they allowed a first-half lead to slip to defeat by Arsenal Under-21s, who included Emerson Nwaneri, 16-year-old brother of Ethan. Nicholas Oyekunle put the O's ahead after 25 minutes but the Gunners levelled in the final seconds of the first half and then completed the comeback nine minutes from time to leave Orient with two points from two group games. Joe Felix put York City ahead inside eight minutes against Newcastle United Under-21s but the Magpies hit back with goals just before and after half-time and added a third late on in the opening Northern Group C game.
