Posh boss Williams praises 'heroic' cup effort

Peterborough boss Luke Williams hailed the "spirit" of his side as they progressed into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup for the first time since 2009. Posh twice came from a goal down to draw 3-3 at home to fellow League One team Barnsley, before winning 7-6 on penalties. "Incredible spirit and character from the players," Williams told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. "They were just heroic, and fighting for each other. Just kept going, non-stop. It's fantastic and they deserve it. "Clean set of penalties, seven taken and seven scored and the goalkeeper made a save too - a good night." The victory follows a 1-0 first-round win at Bristol Rovers and the impressive 5-1 demolition of Championship side Watford in round two. Posh's number nine Harry Leonard, 23, netted the opener to make it five goals already this season, with four of them coming in the cup run. The club also boosted their attacking options in the summer transfer window, bringing in prolific 31-goal National League striker Danny Ormerod from AFC Fylde. The 20-year-old had been limited to four substitute appearances, but scored twice against Barnsley on his first start. Williams added: "Danny did so well, and looks so natural - a proper goalscorer. "That [partnership with Leonard] was really pleasing and really exciting. It seemed like every time we went forward those guys were alive and looking to score." Despite being in Wednesday's hat for the fourth round, Peterborough's league form has yielded just one win in their opening six matches. They sit 21st in the table with five points so far, but Williams is not concerned. "I don't listen to noise," he said. "I have no feeling different to any other time, it's just noise.
