Barcelona president Joan Laporta wants 2030 World Cup final at Spotify Camp Nou: ‘I say this for one reason’ Barcelona president Joan Laporta has set his sights on another major international event for the refurbished Spotify Camp Nou after UEFA confirmed the stadium as the venue for the 2029 Champions League final . Laporta now wants FIFA to select Barcelona’s home for the 2030 World Cup final, by which point the redevelopment is expected to be complete, and the stadium will have a capacity of around 105,000 spectators. Speaking to SER Catalunya , the Barça president made his preference clear while addressing the possibility of the final being staged in Casablanca or Madrid. “It shouldn’t be Casablanca or Madrid; it should be the Spotify Camp Nou. Casablanca and Madrid are one and the same,” he stated. I believe FIFA will take this into account. And besides… a World Cup final was already held at the Santiago Bernabeu in 1982.” Laporta also made clear that his argument is not intended to disregard Morocco, one of the co-hosts of the 2030 tournament. “With all due respect to Morocco, the 2030 World Cup final should be played in Spain, and besides, Spain is a World Cup-winning team.” Barcelona want Camp Nou to become global stage Camp Nou will host more than 100,000 fans after complete development. (Photo by Eric Alonso/Getty Images) Laporta sees the proposed World Cup final as part of a bigger ambition to raise Barcelona’s international profile. “Hosting the 2030 World Cup final at the Spotify Camp Nou would be the kind of international recognition we want to achieve, and that is what we will propose.  “We will put forward these reasons and others that we are sure to come up with, ” he emphasised. His comments come after the stadium was selected to host the 2029 Champions League final, giving Barça another major fixture to look forward to once the redevelopment is complete.
