At the start of the summer, the club made promises to the DNCG regarding player sales. The club looked to abide by those promises until the final hours of the window, but failed to keep to them after Folarin Balogun’s move to Everton broke down. The failure to sell the USMNT international, as was planned, also prevented recruitment in other sectors, and manager Filipe Luís has admitted to an “imbalance” in the squad. Notably, there are too many centre-forwards. There is no recognised right-winger (Frosinone’s Fares Ghedjemis was a target), whilst the club, as previously confirmed by Scuro, also sought to sign Erik Lira in midfield. “I am not happy with everything that we did during the summer and it wasn’t possible to execute our plan 100%. To be honest, no, I am not satisfied with our summer transfer window. If we had different timings to offload players, maybe we would have had a bit more time to sign others,” said Scuro, who spoke of making “corrections” in the January transfer window.
