Garnacho overlooked again as Emery admits others ahead of him

[Getty Images] Alejandro Garnacho is down Aston Villa's pecking order as he battles to make an impression. The winger was an unused substitute in Wednesday's 3-1 Carabao Cup win at Coventry, the third successive game he has been left on the bench. The 22-year-old has played just 31 minutes in three substitute appearances since his loan move from Chelsea and is being kept out by George Hemmings. Villa hold a conditional obligation to buy Garnacho for about £42.5m, believed to be tied to appearances, and boss Unai Emery wants to see improvement. "Continue working. Work, work, train, work," he said. "When he can have minutes to play, try to play well. He is progressing, but we have players in front of him now. "George is playing fantastic. Alysson is also understanding things well and is giving us things I want. (Ibrahim) Mbaye also responded well. "We want a competitive team and players to compete in the style we have. Garnacho is a little bit behind because of some circumstances we had in pre-season. It is time to be patient for the time he needs." Garnacho's pre-season, after arriving at Villa Park in July, was disrupted by a facial injury he suffered against BG Pathum United. It meant he missed the Super Cup defeat by Paris St-Germain in August. Emery has made 14 substitutions in Villa's past three games, with Garnacho overlooked, and he was not one of the seven changes for the win at the CBS Arena. Two goals from Tammy Abraham and Ross Barkley's header earned Villa a fourth-round trip to Bournemouth in October.
