Klopp confirms Tresoldi has not yet made final decision on Italy: ‘It’s not easy’ Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi has not yet decided whether to represent Italy or Germany at senior international level, as reports on Thursday indicate that he is set to continue with the Germany U21s for the time being. Tresoldi expected to turn down Italy to continue with Germany U21s Tresoldi, 22, was born and raised in Cagliari to Italian parents, but moved to Germany as a teenager and went on to represent Hannover at club level and the Germany U19s and U21s at international level. He remains eligible to represent both Italy and Germany at senior level. He has begun the 2026-27 campaign with five goals from eight games in all competitions. He has averaged a goal every other game for Germany’s U21s (12 from 24 caps) and has an almost identical scoring rate for Club Brugge in the league (22 from 45 appearances). Germany national team head coach Klopp, speaking at his press conference on Thursday, has confirmed that Tresoldi has not yet made a decision either way over the nation he will represent at senior international level. Tresoldi is not part of the senior Germany squad for the September-October international break, but is expected to be named in their U21 side, which will be announced on Friday. “The fact that he isn’t on the list doesn’t mean that he’s chosen against Germany or against Italy,” said Klopp. “It’s not an easy decision for a youngster to make. We don’t want to put any pressure on him, we want to show him the possibilities.”
