It’s Ballon d’Or season, and at PSG that means players past and present making their case. There’s been some back and forth between former PSG star Kylian Mbappe and current PSG star Ousmane Dembele. The pair are both among the favourites for the award, and have been campaigning hard in the media. Mbappe was asked about his countryman in an interview with France Football, and responded with this backhanded compliment: “He has always been seen as a talented player; I have always been seen as the chosen one.” Dembele embraces “back of the class” role (Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images) Dembele responded, clearly a little bit annoyed by that comparison. “I have always been at the back of the class, working hard. In my whole career, I haven’t said a word. I have worked a lot. As I said, I was never the chosen one, but I worked and, last year, I was rewarded for a fantastic year with PSG, and this year, we will see, without pressure, calm,” said the PSG forward. You can expect more back and forth like this. At least soon this nonsense will be over and we can go back to enjoying the actual football. In other news… PSG have joined the race to sign the man of the moment, young midfielder JJ Gabriel from Manchester United as he pushes to leave the club. Rennes are arguing that their game against PSG later in the season should be played at Roazhon again, and have made an appeal.
