Monaco will sell Folarin Balogun in january after failed Everton move AS Monaco chief executive Thiago Scuro has confirmed the club plans to sell Folarin Balogun in the upcoming January transfer window. Balogun came close to joining Everton on the summer deadline day before the forward walked away from the transfer at the eleventh hour. Monaco had made certain financial promises to the French football’s financial watchdog, DNCG, over player sales to balance their books. Balogun’s failed move to the Premier League means they are left in a precarious position. The Ligue 1 club now intend to resolve the situation during the winter window by offloading the 25-year-old. Speaking to RMC Sport , Scuro laid out the club’s January transfer strategy. He said: “The original plan is to find a solution for Balogun. If we find that, it will give Monaco the opportunity to keep Lamine [Camara] and [Aleksandr] Golovin until the end of the season. That is the ideal plan, but we can’t control the decisions and what will happen in the winter. Balogun was poised to join Everton after they agreed a deal worth £40 million with Monaco. The transfer was thrown into doubt after an issue was identified in the player’s medical. The Toffees negotiated a lower fee for the United States star, but he walked away from the move. It emerged Balogun was unhappy over how Everton had treated him and decided to stay at Monaco. The unsuccessful deadline day move also cost the Merseyside club, leaving them with only one recognised striker in Thierno Barry. They sold Beto to Fiorentina. Despite lack of options in attack, Everton have made a positive start to the new season, picking up six points from four games to sit in the top half of the Premier League table .
